worth 用法拾零

一、形容詞

1. worth 形容詞，意思是“值(多少錢)(多少錢)”、“相當于……的價值”或“值得”等等。之后，通常會有名詞表示錢數或相當于錢數的名詞“代價”比喻性名詞。例如：

It was worth five hundred francs at most.

It’s worth the time and effort we devoted to it.

How much is the picture worth？

It is worth twice the money we paid for it.

2. be worth 之后還可以接動詞 -ing 形式，意為“值得做”，主動結構應用于表示被動意義。 be worth 不能接不定式。例如：

I think the film is worth seeing twice.

不可說：I think the film is worth being seen twice./ I think the film is worth to see.

主語和動詞之間的邏輯動賓關系只能使用和物動詞或相當于和物動詞的短語。例如：

His speech is worth listening. （錯）

His speech is worth listening to. （正）

His plan is not worth thinking. （錯）

His speech is not worth considering/ thinking about. （正）

二、作名詞

作名詞時，意思是“價值，值……錢(東西)(錢)”。例如：

What is the worth of the old painting？ 這幅舊油畫值多少錢？

三、組成的短語

worth 常用短語有：

1. be worth it 值得(這樣做)(這樣做)

Well，it was a hard climb，but the view from the top is worth it.

哦，爬到頂真的不容易！不過，山頂的風景值(這樣做)！

2. for all one is worth 拼命地

When the boat sank，he swam towards the shore for all he was worth.

船沉沒后，他拼命游向岸邊。

3. worth the name 名副其實，合格

Any art student worth the name would tell you that that is a bad painting.

任何真正的藝術系學生都會告訴你，這是一幅糟糕的油畫。

4. get one’s money’s worth (錢)花得值得，合得來，過得滿意，過得滿意

You will get your money’s worth if you go to Paris for holiday.

如果你去巴黎度假，一定值(讓你覺得)。
